getting back into the swing

as usual my timing is impeccable. we are all nearing holidays but I have decided that now is the time for me to get back into art so now im trying to draw a little everyday and have started painting again - but that's mainly on Saturdays. also doing allot of research into the great artists of old on the net. mostly the nine old men and then some other greats from the Warner studios and also some current greats. soon I will add link to some amazing sites for all of you interested in animation and character drawing/ acting.

anyway I started a new painting last week that is starting to get quite interesting.
its a very expressionistic piece of work, reflecting on the recent past. I have just come through a very dark and depressing time. I wanted to capture it.
its a grotesque figure study. i did not have a model. it basically grew from a rough gesture sketch.

i will post a picture of it as soon as possible, but for now i have a very inspirational image by an artist called Egon Schiele. enjoy

hey all

its been months since youve been updated i know.
ive been really busy and got out of the whole posting, blogging, myspace, internet thing!

Well, here are some pics from the animated childrens film i am currently directing.

The story is about a young snail who leaves his home on the compost heap to embark on a journey across the yard toward the mulberry tree of his dreams.
Along the way he encounters danger and must make a new friend who will help him on his way.

gain his supernatural strength and vicious superiority in the ring.
If you ever see him in the street please don't call him Susan and try not to feed him,
he might follow you home.

whats coming up

k well i wrote a short story that is going to be developed in the APTI ( animation prodution training initiative ) programme run by anamazing south africa.
mine will be one of ten animated shorts developed for children between the ages of 6 and 9.

this is a very exciting and happy time for me. i have been wanting to move myself foward in my career toward writing and directing. as well as directing i will be the team lead so i have ALOT of control over this projects outcome. GREAT !

after directing my short for a 4 month production period, beginning 1 june, i will be team leading for another director on one of the other shorts for a continued 4 months.
during these eight months i aim to continue writing and get ready for my next project.
these shorts will be entered into as many festivals as i can get them into and hopefully win some recognition, helping the further growth and development of my career.

well .. i figure its about time i start getting back into my art and showing updates of it on this site. i have bought myself the ' drawing with the right side of the brain' book and am going to work through it. i have not drawn anything for over six years so its going to start a bit dodgy im sure.


below are 2 are my favourite drawings i did when i was in grade 12.
i did various art subjects throughout high school. drawing, painting, graphics.
they are the only subjects i actually passed decently !
